Meet the People Behind the Mission

At Homeless Assist, we believe lasting change begins with people who care deeply. Our team is a passionate group of professionals, volunteers, advocates, and community leaders committed to creating a world where everyone has access to shelter, dignity, and a fresh start.

Samuel Hawthorne

Samuel Hawthorne brings over 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and social work. Inspired by her own encounters with housing insecurity in her youth, she founded Homeless Assist to ensure others would never have to face homelessness alone. Her vision is to transform temporary relief into lasting recovery.

“Every person has potential. Our job is to help them unlock it.”

Bertha Glantz

Bertha Glantz leads our frontline efforts, overseeing shelter operations, community engagement, and client services. With a background in crisis management and trauma-informed care, he ensures every program we run is rooted in compassion, efficiency, and respect.

William Brown

William Brown manages day-to-day operations and coordinates our amazing volunteers. With a heart for service and unmatched organizational skills, she ensures that every meal, donation, and helping hand makes it to where it’s needed most.

“When I came to Homeless Assist, I had nowhere else to go. They gave me a warm bed, a hot meal, and something I hadn’t felt in a long time — hope. Today, I have a job, my own apartment, and a second chance. I’m so grateful for this organization.”

Timothy Bogle

Program Graduate

“I thought I was coming here to help others — but I ended up gaining so much myself. Being part of this mission has opened my heart and shown me the power of kindness and community.”

Benita Brown

Volunteer

“I’ve never been judged here, only supported. The staff truly care, and they helped me see my worth when I had lost all belief in myself. I’m working now, rebuilding my life one day at a time.”

Nellie Chaney

Shelter Resident

“I was in and out of shelters for years. At Homeless Assist, I finally found stability. Their job training program helped me land steady work, and the counseling gave me the strength to keep going. I finally feel like I have a future.”
